Cornered

Performance Photography

2016

A series of ten photographs.

This art work explores the experience of being in the middle of a beautiful nowhere, yet remaining trapped in a box that has been created by either society or ourselves. It explores the idea of how the whole of existence is truly floating in a beautiful nowhere, an infinite space. But the human mind creates limitations that manifest into fears restricting one to break free. From ideologies to sociopolitical constructs on gender, race, class and so on. If one could only realize that outside of the box there is nothing, and its a beautiful nothing to be enjoyed. While this artwork is inspired by personal and other women's experiences in the Middle East, it is not limited to a universal experience.
