A BEAUTIFUL STRUGGLE TO SET FREE, 2014
Street Photography, Mixed Media
As a street photographer I use different methods of photography to reinterpret the streets of Kuwait and its cultural binaries. Instant photography was chosen to represent moments of cultural clashes between foreigners and locals. I focus on the lower working class foreigners and capture their daily life as they work as a means of survival. I attempt to highlight that laborers in Kuwait face extreme exclusion and separation from the Kuwaiti population while performing hard manual labor for long working hours. As for the locals, life is much more easygoing and clarity is commonly experienced. The collision of both cultures creates what I see as a beautiful kind of struggle in order to be set free. Throughout the series, the first photograph shows exclusion, the second depicts clarity and freedom experienced by the locals, and the third captures the daily activities of the lower working class foreigners.
